A FRESH blast of bitter winter weather is set to hit Britain, bringing further chaos amid snowy and icy conditions.

Britons should brace themselves for yet another cold spell say forecasters, as wintry showers and north-easterly winds from the Arctic cause further weather misery.

The Met Office has already released weather warnings for London and the South East, with up to 15 cm of snow and possible drifting expected on high ground tomorrow and Thursday.

Kent is likely to see the heaviest snow falls with a risk of widespread ice at night.

And temperatures across the country are set to plummet as low as -5C.

Met Office spokesman Barry Grommett told Express.co.uk: "There is high pressure to the North West of the UK which has introduced this bitter north-easterly wind across the country, bringing frequent snow showers in the South East corner.

* TEMPERATURES...TEMPERATURES NEAR FREEZING AT THE ONSET TUESDAY
AFTERNOON. TEMPERATURES WILL DROP INTO THE UPPER 20S TUESDAY
NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.

* WINDS...LIGHT SOUTHEASTERLY WINDS TUESDAY BECOMING
NORTHWESTERLY 15 TO 25 MPH WEDNESDAY.
