The Met Office has warned of heavy snow in south-east England later today. It has also issued severe weather warnings across the east of Britain and predicted freezing temperatures.

Some parts of Kent could be hit by up to 10cm of snow overnight, which could cause disruption for commuters.

A flash warning of icy roads was issued for much of the east of the UK this morning, as widespread frost created difficult driving conditions.

Met Office forecaster Helen Chivers said it was only a small area of the country that faced the prospect of heavy snowfalls.

"As we go into this evening and overnight the risk for particularly the extreme south-east of Kent increases," she said. "The majority of the snow showers will be over the Dover Strait, but there is a risk this part of Kent could get 2-5cm, possibly up to 10cm."
