A fresh blast of wintry weather will send temperatures across Britain plummeting, according to forecasters.

Eastern parts of the country are most at risk of snow showers over the next few days but most areas will witness sub-zero temperatures overnight.

It will also feel increasingly cold in the daytime, falling to 1C (34F) in places as a chill northeast wind strengthens through the week.

However, there is not expected to be a repeat of the heavy snow falls and extended period of cold weather which brought the country to a near-standstill last month.
