Britain will shiver again this week in a blast of wintry weather forecast to bring snow to some parts of the country.

Eastern England will be most at risk of snow showers as overnight temperatures plunge below zero over the next few days.

It will feel cold in the day too, with temperatures falling to 1C (3F) in some places as a northeast wind strengthens during the week.

But forecasters say there will not be a return to the arctic conditions that caused chaos last month, and the snow will be patchy when it falls.

Sky weather presenter Denise Nurse said: "It'll be a cold and rather cloudy day today for most, although western Scotland and the northern half of Ireland will have some good sunshine.

"Most places will be dry, but there'll be showery rain in the East, and especially the South East of the country. Some sleet and snow are likely at times there too, especially over the hills, but the snow is unlikely to settle."
